Valuable Cricket Collection of the Late T. Padwick, Esq., Redhill. To be sold
Brighton: A.J. Gaston, [1898]. 8vo., modern cloth.
A RARE AND HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT CATALOGUE of "the first really substantial cricket collection ever to come on the market and ... the first major library for the sale of which Gaston was responsible" (Irving Rosenwater in Journal of the Cricket Society, vol. VII, no. 4, spring 1976, p. 51). Thomas Padwick died aged 53 on 29 April, 1898. Although his son-in-law, Charles Pratt Green, retained part of his collection, the great majority of items were included in Gaston's 20-page catalogue with most books priced in shillings rather than pounds. Allen Catalogue of Cricket Catalogues 20; Padwick 19.
