Ashley-Cooper was also interested in curious incidents, mentioning a match between M.C.C and Notts at Lord's, June 9-11, when J. Iremonger "received a ball which moved a stump to which the bail adhered"; and when T. Wass of Notts "was out in a curious manner. A ball from W. Mead went off the shoulder of his bat on to the forehead of T.M. Russell, the wicket-keeper, and was caught by point" (p. 45). Wynne-Thomas p. 20; Padwick 920.
