Provenance: PRESENTATION COPY TO THE PUBLISHER FROM A.J. GASTON (inscription on preliminary leaf signed and dated 28 May, 1897) -- [John Arlott?] -- A.E. Winder (bookplate).
No. 11 OF 25 COPIES AND AN IMPORTANT ASSOCIATION COPY, numbered and signed by Gaston, and presented to D.B. Friend. While Gaston's claim to the authorship of Ford's book has been disproved, the existence of this association copy suggests that it was with the knowledge and approval of the publisher and, ultimately, of the genuine author that he assumed title to the book and so often signed the limitation leaf.
