The Principles of Scientific Batting ... a new edition containing the laws of cricket revised ... 2 June, 1845
Oxford: H. Slatter and London: Whittaker and J.H. Dark, [1845?]. 12mo. (occasional thumb-soiling), late 19th-century green half calf, spine lettered in gilt between two raised bands and with bat and ball tool at each end, original paper title label pasted onto rear endpaper (extremities rubbed). Sale: Phillips, London, The Hal Cohen Collection, 26 January 1995, lot 515.
Third edition. With Haygarth and Box, Pycroft was one of three authors to whom in Ashley-Cooper's view "all subsequent writers on the history of cricket have owed much" (Cricket Highways and Byways, p. 232). He was just twenty-two when this, his first work, was originally published in 1835. Padwick 705.
