Lot Essay

Plucrea "Polly" Fairman (1754-1813) married Gideon Botsford (1749-1826) in Newtown, Connecticut in 1771. They had thirteen children. In a related mourning picture (fig. 1) in the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Collection at Colonial Williamsburg, Polly's grave is accompanied by those of two of her children who died in infancy: Polly A. Botsford (August 1792-March 1793) and Gideon Bennett Botsford (August 1774-December 1774).
