A CATALAN MIQUELET-LOCK PISTOL BY J.BORNIO
circa 1690-1700
In the Ripoll fashion, with swamped barrel formed in two stages with turned girdle, the forward stage with raised narrow rib and the rearward section cut with four narrow ribs and struck with barrelmaker's mark 'Coma' (Neue Støckel 189), plain patilla lock with fluted fences, the jaws of the cock cut with a characteristic Ripoll pattern over the inner face and the outer face of the steel struck with maker's mark (Neue Støckel 86), walnut full stock, the rear portion inlaid with iron plaques pierced and engraved with symmetrical designs of flowering scrollwork and retained by iron pins (rubbed), fluted fore-end (repaired, almost certainly within the early working life of the pistol), flattened domed pommel, engraved iron trigger-guard with pierced finial, moulded ramrod-pipes, iron fore-end cap, and horn-tipped ramrod.
