A blue and white small dish, Wanli
Painted with a parrot on a perch -- 5¼ in. (13.3 cm.) diam.; a blue and white wine cup and saucer, Kangxi; an iron-red and sepia 'Magic Square' saucer with Arabic calligraphy; three teabowls in sizes, similar; and a quantity of blue and white and enamelled teabowls, saucers, and a rectangular box.

Lot Essay

The 'Magic Square' items in this lot include inscriptions from the Koran and Arabic numerals within the square. A similarly decorated dish is illustrated by Howard and Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, no. 480, p. 470.
