Of lunette form, designed in two registers with architectural paneling, painted en grisaille with a young girl feeding a bunny rabbit, this central panel flanked by gilt striped pilasters flanking side panels of gilt and grisaille scrolls and arabesques, the lower portion repeating the panels and with corresponding decoration, a gilt and grisaille foliate scroll beneath the painted scene, the separate cover with three bough holes with everted mouths and four simple apertures

Lot Essay

The painting on the present bough pot is after an engraving by Charles Knight (1743-c.1826) entitled The Favourite Rabbit. It is a pair with another entitled Tom and his Pigeons by the same artist, both engraved after paintings by John Russell (1745-1806).
