NOAH WEBSTER TO HIS PUBLISHERS. Almost two years after publication of his highly influential American Dictionary of the English Language (1828), Webster gives direction for publication of a revised edition of another work: "I send you two copies of my history of the United States. In No.1 I wish you to stereotype page VI of the Preface, merely to insert the paragraph in manuscript, instead of that which is erased. But the main business is to stereotype the Appendix in No.2 beginning with page 325, as this Appendix is to be added to the History No. 1. And, as there must be only a sheet of 36 pages, you may omit the questions at the end, which I have canceled. You will stereotype the work without woodcuts...Please send the plates to Sidney Babcock of this city."

First published in 1832, Webster's weighty compilation was entitled: History of the United States, to Which is Prefixed a Brief Historical Account of our [English] Ancestors from the Dispersion at Babel to their Migration to America and of the Conquest of South America by the Spaniards.
