THE DEATH OF ANDREW JACKSON. A memorial depiction, handcolored in blue, pink and yellow, showing the deathbed of President Andrew Jackson, 8 June 1845, probably based on newspaper accounts of his final hours. The white-haired Jackson rests one hand on an open Bible, flanked by his physician, Dr. Esselman, who takes Old Hickory's pulse. Surrounding the deathbed are Mrs. Marion Adams, Major Lewis, Major and Mrs. Donelson and, kneeling in front of Jackson's bed, two young girls, one of them probably his granddaughter Rachel Jackson Lawrence.
