Lot Essay

One of the most prominent of contemporary artists drawing inspiration from Islamic calligraphy, Ermes typically juxtaposes texts from Arabic poetry with his bold single letters. The inscription on the right identifies the large single letter as the letter Arabic Sad written in the diwani script. To the lower left there is a quotation from the Ayun Al-Akhbar of Ibn Qutaiba.
