Lot Essay
On one of his strolls across the flea markets of Paris, Jean Schlumberger discovered a small basket of woven metal designed to hold a child's treasures. He went to the workshop with which he was currently working (Pierre G. Brun) and asked for the basket to be reproduced in gold wire. Thus was born his line of basketry which included compacts as in this case but also evening bags, powder boxes and lipstick holders and cigarette cases.
