Lot Essay

Gerald Stonehill purchased a large quantity of these rolls from the Harrods Lending Library in 1962. Some were missing, but most gaps have since been replaced from worldwide sources.
In the mid-1990s, Nimbus records were reproducing music from this collection, played from the Iles-Stonehill Robot (lot 124). The Duo-Art catalogue was the most wide-reaching of all the reproducing roll makers.

The Stonehill Duo-Art collection is seen as the most complete internationally.
