Lot Essay

Sold with a photocopy of a note found on the original frame ascribing the subjects as 'The Five Miss Downes' and the manor house as Mappersall, the seat of the Downes family in Bedfordshire, demolished in 1812.

This is probably a copy of a now-lost embroidery.
