Lot Essay

According to Adrienne Baxter Bell, "This panel represents a variation on the setting in the Cesina section of Capri that Coleman depicted in "Twilight and Poppies" (lot 60). From this fertile terrain, we see the Scala Fenicia (Phoenician Steps), and, in the background, the faintest indications of Ischia and Procida."

The present work will be included in Adrienne Baxter Bell's forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Coleman's works.
