Australian-born Stuart Devlin began his career as a silversmith by opening a small workshop in London in 1965. His design ethos promoted the original concepts of intrigue and amusement in the medium of silver, long known for its traditional composition. Devlin would combine technical innovation with natural forms, and in 1967, by turning his hand to creating jewellery and supporting the new design movement, he became one of Britain's respected modern craftsmen-jewellers. In 1982 Devlin was granted the Royal Warrant of Appointment as Goldsmith and Silversmith to H.M. The Queen.
