Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Peter Kennedy-Scott for suggesting that the present work may be by Miles Edmund Cotman. A smaller, compositionally similar sketch of St. Benet's Abbey by the artist is illustrated in Harold Day's The Norwich School of Painters, Sussex, 1979, p.236.
