A VERY RARE MING GILT-BRONZE AND CLOISONNE ENAMEL CENSER AND COVER
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
Of rectangular section, enamelled around the shallow rounded body with two registers of colourful lotus scrolls, below a gilt-bronze band of lotus lappets on the shoulder, the galleried mouth rim with foliate scrolls and flanked by a pair of gilt-bronze loop handles shaped as chilong, all raised on four cabriole legs with claws emerging from monster masks, the cover with an enamelled lotus band on the rim, surmounted by convoluted openwork lotus scrollwork surrounding the finial in the form of a Buddhist lion playing with a brocade ball
