A similar study entitled 'Sidon from a sketch on the spot' appears in Diana Villar's John Wilson Carmichael 1799-1868, published by Carmichael and Sweet Ltd., 1995, p.17.

During the 1830s to 1840s, after hostilities with France had ended, Aaron Watson's memoir mentions Carmichael's 'frequent travels', especially to Sidon, the Dardanelles, Malta and other areas of the Mediterranean.
