EINSTEIN, Albert (1879-1955). Autograph letter signed ('Papa') to his sons, ('Meine lieben Kinder'), n.p., 28 November [1924], one page, 4to (light paper clip stains, two punctures at centre fold).
Einstein expresses delight with his children's activities, including a proficient drawing by Eduard ('This is a talent you certainly did not inherit from your father'), and exam results and a successful surveying calculation by Hans Albert. Einstein's will be making his trip to South America alone, as their schools will not allow the children to come with him; but he hopes to see them in Kiel on his return. To this end, 'Tete [Eduard] should sail like crazy: it is the best way of strengthening the health'. Einstein himself is in bed with a stubborn dose of the flu, but is getting better. He looks forward to helping Hans Albert with his studies in Kiel: 'For the theoretical side, I am at your disposal'. The letter closes with a recommendation for Bernard Shaw's St Joan, which he has just seen: 'It is a marvellous work which you should read or see'.
Bernard Shaw reciprocated Einstein's admiration for him: in 1930 he famously described the scientist as a 'maker of universes'.
