1963 PORSCHE 356B S COUPE

Engine: air-cooled flat four, two twin-choke Solex carburetors, 1,592cc, 75bhp at 5,500rpm; Gearbox: four speed manual; Suspension: front, independent with trailing arms, shock absorbers, torsion bars, rear, compensating leaf spring, torsion bars; Brakes: drums all round. Left hand drive.
The new Porsche 356B model was first shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 1959. The car featured an all-new bodyshell, which incorporated subtle changes over its predecessor. These amendments included slightly different front wings that accommodated higher-set headlamps, a more raked nose panel and heavier bumpers. The front horn grills now had two vertical slats and even the front boot handle was slightly revised, although it of course carried the family crest. Inside the car there were now split rear seats with folding backrests, a feature that Porsche continues to this day. The 'S' engine offered an extra 15bhp over the standard model and was capable of a top speed of just under 110mph.
The Porsche being offered by Christie's is confirmed as a matching numbers example and is believed to be on its third owner. Sporting the original red interior which shows a very tasteful patina, it is thought to have spent the last 22 years in New Rochelle, NY. This would be seemingly balanced by window stickers from the Porsche Club of America - Metro New York Region and the American Yacht Club of Rye, NY. The exterior has been repainted some time ago in a subtle off-white and is presenting well. Upon recent inspection the car started and ran well. This is an opportunity to own a local, ready to use, handsome, all-season Porsche.
