Lot Essay

The present work recalls, in the placement of the three principal figures, Wyck's View of a Port in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich (see G. Briganti, The Bamboccianti, 1983, p. 237, fig. 7.16), which can probably be dated to the early 1640s when Wyck was in Italy. His vedute ideali of Mediterranean harbors strongly suggest that he visited Naples at this time.
