Circle of Herri met de Bles and Pieter Aertsen* (1507/8-1575).
Wouter Kloek and Peter van den Brink believe that the landscape in the present painting is by an anonymous follower of Herri met de Bles, but that the staffage is by Pieter Aertsen, painted early in the artist's career, when he was a figure painter. Kloek compares the present painting to an Ecce Homo in the Smidt van Gelder Museum, Antwerp, in which the staffage is also by Aertsen.
