Oblong 2o (341 x 480 mm). 7 leaves of text, lithographed title and six plates after Green by Lane & Scott, Boston. (Some spotting.) Contemporary half calf (binding defective). Provenance: Western Reserve Historical Society (bookplate).
VERY RARE, not in Blockson, Howes or Sabin. The imprint is found on the cover of the copy at the American Antiquarian Society. Green's abolitionist poem is illustrated by the title and six plates: title showing emblems of American Liberty, followed by the plates "Freedom," representing the African family with slave-stealers approaching, "For sale," representing a slave auction, "Sold," showing the separation of family, "The Brand and Scourge," showing the betrayal of escaped slaves, "The Escape," showing the slaves guided to freedom by the North Star and "Man-Hunting," showing the family pursued by hounds and fired upon.
