FIRST EDITION IN FRENCH of this substantial and highly valued collection of early works on glass making edited by Baron von d'Holbach. Included in the work is Neri's L'Arte vetraria containing an impressive range of recipes and procedures for producing different types and colours of glass, imitation gems, enamels and gold leaf. The first printed text on the subject when it appeared in 1612, it served as the basis for all subsequent early books on the subject. Also combined in this French edition are shorter treatises on related but specialised subjects, including Johann Christian Orschall's Sol sine veste on decomposing gold and making artificial rubies, Christoph Grummet's refutation of Orschall's claims, Carl Friedrich Zimmerman's notes on the production of cobalt blue, and an anonymous German treatise on porcelain.
