WAGNER, Richard (1813-1883). Autograph letter signed ('Rich. Wagner') to an unidentified female friend, Paris, 27 November 1860, one page, 8vo, window-mounted, translation; with a printed handbill advertising performances of the Ring at Bayreuth, 22 July - 17 August n.y.
WAGNER WORN OUT BY ILLNESS. His correspondent is mistaken if she thought him subject only to a temporary complaint: 'Nearly five weeks ago I was seized ... by a nervous fever which affected me so seriously that I have almost no recollection at all of this period'; the illness has left him enfeebled ever since, and his recovery has been put back by 'over-adventurous trips outdoors' and visits, in particular to 'Herr Gènie, who (having no idea of my condition) had me tell him whole life-stories and opera plots'; Wagner is now conserving all his strength for rehearsals.
