Kinglake, Anna Jameson, Fredrika Bremer (Stockholm, 1861), Lord Houghton, Robert Stephenson, Samuel Smiles, J.E. Millais, Sir E. Burne-Jones, G.E. Street, Sir Roderick Murchison, H.H. Layard, Sir Samuel Baker, Sir Charles Lyell, F.O. Morris, Samuel Plimsoll, and many others, with signatures (including John Ruskin) and other fragments, the majority laid down on detached album leaves, altogether approximately 100 letters, 60 fragments and 4 printed ephemera.

Emily Anne Beaufort (1826-87), daughter of Sir Francis Beaufort, was a pioneer of nursing, heroine of the Bulgarian relief effort, 1876 and the war in Turkey, 1877, during which she establised a hospital for Turkish soldiers. She married in 1682 Percy, 8th Viscount Strangford, a noted philologist and oriental secretary at the British embassy at Constantinople. Rear Admiral Sir Francis Beaufort was hydrographer to the Navy, 1829-55.
