A SILVER ICE BOWL AND SERVING SPOON
Maker's mark of Gorham, Providence, 1870
Shaped oval, formed as a faceted block of ice on a similarly-formed oval base and chased in the imitation of frost, one side engraved with monogram D and inscription Dec.25.1870, with two-cast polar-bear handles and applied cast icicles, marked under base; the serving spoon with pierced spade-shaped bowl engraved with a stylized monogram, the cylindrical handle mounted with a cast polar-bear entwined with rope, marked on reverse of bowl, both pieces fitted in original silk-lined case
The bowl 11in. long and the spoon 11in. long; total weight 30oz. 10dwt. (2)
