ICONS: RUSSIAN, LATE 18TH CENTURY; CASE: PROBABLY PALESTINIAN, 18TH CENTURY (?)
Images of the Mother of God and of Christ are revealed when the diptych is open. In addition to the Russian images and inscriptions, the appelations of the represented figures are also written in Greek. The case shows on the obverse the Holy Sepulchre and on the back the Resurrection, whilst three tassels are hanging on the side.
EXTENDED: 7 5/8 x 5¾ in. (19.25 x 14.5 cm)
CLOSED: 3 7/8 x 5¾ in. (9.75 x 14.5 cm)
LENGTH OF TASSELS: 6 1/8 in. (15.5 cm)
