Lot Essay

This and the following two lots are from the same collection as a group of drawings by Stefano della Bella sold in these Rooms on 5 July 2005, lots 46-71. Largely taken from three albums, many of the drawings are connected to prints published in Paris in 1641-51 by Langlois, Silvestre, Mariette and Jombert, suggesting that they were already in France by this date.
