Lot Essay

One of a group of female nude studies, each inscribed with the model's name, formerly attributed to Natoire and recently reattributed to Joullain (others sold Christie's, London, 1 July 1969, lot 76 ('Jolie Nanette'), and Christie's, London, 1 December 1970, lot 83 ('Heloise')). The attribution has been confirmed by Jean-Christophe Baudequin and Jérôme Moncquiol.
