Additional 19th-century engraved portrait after Holbein and printed translation of Luther's two letters into English bound in. Modern plum morocco, spine gilt, brown silk doublures and endleaves. Provenance: marginalia in an early hand; Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex (1773-1843, bookplate); J.L. and E.B. Ketterlinus (bookplate); Fred W. Allsop (his sale Parke Bernet, 1 April 1947, lot 207).

FIRST EDITION of Luther's letters to the Bishops of Marseberg and Mainz. The date in the imprint in this edition is in roman numerals. Benzing 1025.
