KLIMECCIUS, Christoph. Chilias liliorum ex horto mariano salutationis angelicase post messes fasces & acervos anagrammaticase collectionis, ad octonarium redacta, ac in totidem serta compicata. Zamosc, 1696.
8o. Full page engraving of a sainted Mary on a dragon and full-page engraving of a lion, 2 woodcuts. (I2 with marginal repair.) Brown morocco gilt, covers gilt with an oval centerpiece, edges gilt, by Zaehnsdorf. Provenance: Russian bookplate; purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 27 August 1956.
A rare and curious book, printed in the Polish city of Zamosc. It consists of a collection of anagrams, in most of which the first line is printed vertically, these letters forming together a complete sentence. There are other typographical oddities, such as a completely black woodcut of the crucifixtion surrounded by an inscription printed in white on black, and a page headed "Oda parastichiche anagrammatizans" which consists only of empty lines, apparently meant to be filled in by the reader from the anagram on the facing page. A beautifully bound copy of a rare book, with no copies able to be located on the market or in libraries.
