8o (213 x 136 mm). Stereoscopic plates. Contemporary red morocco, edges gilt, original wooden stereoscope viewer mounted on rear pastedown. Provenance: Gordon Frank Melles (presentation inscription); purchased from William P. Wolfe, Montreal, 1962.

FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the front flyleaf: "Gordon Frank Melles from the author his affect. House Tutor in memory of his days at Eton. August 1st 1901." Most of the book is devoted to this British author's travels in the West in the 1890s. He visited Yellowstone, San Francisco, Yosemite, Salt Lake, and the natural attractions of Utah. It is a scarce western travel narrative, but also a fine photographic item. The stereo viewer at the back may be employed in studying the plates.
