Lot Essay

Active in Lombardy and especially in Bergamo, very little is known about Antonio Mara, other than he specialized in delicate still lifes, often with trompe-l'oeil effects against a wooden background. In this painting it is possible to recognize a Sassoferrato composition; a canvas in the style of Dughet; a drawing close to Guercino, and a miniature portrait attributable to Sustermans.
