Lot Essay

In the late 1950s, the renowned Zoologist Desmond Morris curated an exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, including works by a chimpanzee named Congo. Congo's works were snapped up by an enthusiastic public and even Picasso is reported to have owned a painting by Congo.
