Lot Essay

The powerful effect of the collage comes from the peculiar arrangement of the two postcards and the tension they establish between verticality (a Freudian 'erection'?) and horizontality (the nude's invitation to love), between exterior and interior, the non-human and the human, with intimations of secret love affairs haunting the history of the residence. Such juxtaposition, and eventually fusion, of the two images, unavoidably, derive from, and open onto, deep personal fantasy.
