Lot Essay

The V-shape and the many diagonals which structure the painting converge to, and radiate from, a central point, the fulcrum of the painting and locus of all creative forces, animal, as represented by the horse, human, as represented by the farmer, mechanical as represented by the plough and natural as represented by the mountains, all four combining into a hymn to natural harmony and fusion of energies. The motif of the horse and plough echoes quite a few other works in this collection.
