The ebonised base with fluted sides, set with glazed ormolu bezel for white enamel Roman dial, with blued steel Breguet hands, flanked by four flowerhead bosses, mounted on a hinged panel opening to reveal the eight day twin barrel movement with Brocot regulation and countwheel strike on bell, stamped for Japy and for BALIER LOURAT, numbered 5474, with elaborate automaton tree and pond scene above, powered by independent barrel wound and released from the right side and comprising rocking ship and automaton spring (spiral-twist glass rod), two birds dipping forward to drink, two birds flying from tree to tree with one flapping its wings, a stationary bird in its nest and a bird to the top flapping its wings, the activity accompanied by the sound of bird song from two bellows, with independent musical movement tripped from the left side, with 6 in. long pinned music cylinder, twice numbered 17029, playing a selection of four tunes; under glass dome (cracked) -- 35¼ in. (89.5 cm.) high, excluding dome; pendulum
