A carved red lacquer rectangular box and cover, 16th century
the top carved with pavilions bordering a fenced garden with a scene of boys supporting a scholar riding a donkey next to a deer, and a river with another scholar playing a flute in a boat near to swimming ducks, the sides with a dense design of tree peony, the interior and underside black lacquered -- 10in. (25.4cm.) x 13 11/16in. (34.7cm.)
