A Tibetan thanka, 15th Century
Ink, colour and gilt on cloth, painted with a central lama, seated on a lotus petal throne, holding an alms bowl, wearing a mitre-style hat and fitted robes draped over the shoulders and left arm, surrounded by a host of deities, monks and personages upon cloud scrolls, silk embroidered mount, the reverse painted with the outline of a stupa, inscribed with alternate red and black lines of callligraphy -- painted section 34in. x 24¾in. (86.4cm x 63cm).
