MARK PROBABLY I*G (script), (Grimwade no.3640), LONDON, 1752,
Of baluster form on spreading foot, with leaf-capped scroll handle, the front engraved with a carnation & inscribed contemporaneously "Northampton Aug.7th. Won by Bursters, Glory of London, Beautys Conquest, Purple Seedling Bezart, Scotts King George, Glory of Northend", 4 in. high (10 cm.), 7.25 oz.

Further details
"Burster" carnations, in which the mass of petals was so great that the calyx burst, were much admired in the 18th Century for their very strong scent. Modern taste favours the less scented border carnations.
