Lot Essay

Chaudet, Antoine Denis 1763 - 1810. Worked as a painter and studied under Stouf and Gois. In 1781 he was runner up in the Prix de Rome, winning it in 1784. In 1789 he was elected a member of the old Royal Academy of Painting and he became a member of the Institute. He exhibited at the Salon between 1798 and 1810 and was awarded the commission to do the figure of napoleon for the column in the Place Vendôme.
