PROPERTY OF GALERIE ART FOCUS, ZURICH
Max Kohler was fascinated by glass of all forms, from ancient to Art Nouveau to contemporary and first began to collect the work of Tiffany Studios in the early 1970s. Kohler first encountered Tiffany's work while visiting a dealer in Hamburg. He was so taken with its vivid beauty that he spontaneously purchased five important lamps on the spot which formed the foundation of what has come to be regarded as an extensive and thoughtfully put together collection.
Kohler's enthusiasm and discerning eye led to an array of subsequent acquisitions, from candlesticks to early fuel lamps. Kohler was a passionate collector of Tiffany not only for his private collection, but also maintained an inventory for his Galerie Art Focus in Zurich, which specialized in modern art until his death in 2003. Each successful purchaser of lots 1-11 will receive a hard bound copy of Alastair Duncan's 1997 catalogue Galerie ART FOCUS/Max Kohler Sammlung.
