Lot Essay

Baginton Hall was the seat of William Bromley, Speaker of the House of Commons. The old house was destroyed by fire in 1710 although part of the outbuildings, visible in the present picture, survived. The new house, built to the designs of Francis Smith of Warwick was itself destroyed by fire in 1889.
