Lot Essay

A set of eight very similar George III chairs was supplied to Sir Peter Warburton, 5th Bt., (d. 1813) for Arley Hall, Cheshire, probably by Gillows of Lancaster. They were sold by the Viscountess Ashbrook, Christie's, London, 25 February 1960, lot 101. They were sold again anonymously, Christie's, London, 30 November 2000, lot 21.
