CHATEAU FIGEAC

Next door to Pomerol, the medieval village of Saint-Emilion and its surrounding vineyards hold some of the regions best hidden gems. Up until the early 19th century, 175 acres of this appellation fell under the Figeac manor including the much esteemed Cheval Blanc. Today, though separate estates, the two châteaux share a small gravelly plateau unique within St. Emilion. Remnants of the château's former grandeur lie in the many estates which still use the name Figeac as a modifier in their names. Figeac is distinct in its use of the highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon in an appellation known for Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Perhaps this fact explains the estates excellent record for performance in otherwise lesser vintages.
