Lot Essay

The present composition is after an engraving, in reverse, by Carracci (see B. Bohn, The Illustrated Bartsch, 1995, 39, I, p. 299, no. 194), which, in turn, is based on a drawing by Francesco Vanni in the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence.
