17TH/18TH CENTURY
The poet wearing a scholar's robes and hat shown reclining against a brocade-covered book and a qin beside a large globular wine jar carved in relief with a pair of mask and ring handles and a poem, with a seal carved on the bottom of the qin and the jar, with a small patch of russet on the hat
3½ in. (9 cm.) long, wood stand

Lot Essay

The poem appears to be a couplet in running script, with the seal Xian (immortal). The seal on the base of the qin may be read, Xiang Zhai (Xiang Studio), and that on the base of the jar reads Zigang, probably referring to the famous Ming jade carver Lu Zigang.
