The sloping shoulder cast with three double bow-string bands interrupted by a pair of curved strap handles cast as simplified masks with upright horns, the domed cover with a triple ribbed band around the rim and a double bow-string band below the conical finial, heavily encrusted

Lot Essay

Purported to have been found in Korea, this rare bronze jar and cover is related in shape and style to a proto-porcelain example with olive-green feldspathic glaze, dated to the Han dynasty, in the collection of the Seattle Art Museum, which was also included in the exhibition, Arts of the Han Dynasty, Chinese Art Society of America, Asia House, New York, p. 32, no. 34.
